Hornet Nest Removal in Downingtown PA

Hornet Nest Removal Downingtown

Our client in Downingtown PA had a GIANT bald faced hornet nest in the eaves on the back of their home. They knew they needed a Hornet Expert so they called Prudential Pest Solutions to treat and remove their bald faced hornet nest.

This nest was located about 20 feet off the ground so we needed our extension ladder to reach the nest. I like to get as close as possible to the hornet nest so that we can treat and remove the nest.

After I put on my bee suit, I climbed the ladder to get as close as possible to the nest. It is important to make sure you have all of your protective sting gear on before the treatment because Bald Faced Hornets can pack quite a punch when they sting.

When I got my camera close to the nest to video the opening, the hornets began to come out of the nest to investigate the intruder. Using my favorite hornet treating chemical, PT PI, I began the treatment. PT PI works very well for this treatment because it works quickly and permeates the entire interior of the nest.

Hornet Nest Removal in Downingtown PA
Hornet Nest Removal in Downingtown PA

I begin the treatment by applying the PT PI into the main opening of the nest. This creates a dam of dead hornets which traps the remaining live hornets in the nest. I then pierce the PT PI applicator into the side of the nest to finish off the remaining hornets in the nest.

Once the activity inside the nest subsides, I scrape the nest off of the house. There are always some hornets that are outside of the nest during the treatment. These hornets will congregate where the nest was located on the outside of the house.

It is interesting that the hornets will not gather at the actual nest that we removed. They will gather where the nest USED to be, on the eaves of the house. For these hornets, we will spray a liquid insecticide that has a residual element onto the surface of the eave and soffit. This liquid insecticide will kill off the remaining hornets that are there and any that return to the area.

Hornet Nest Treatment in Downingtown PA

The hornet nest that we removed was slightly smaller than a basketball which is a pretty good sized hornet nest. I always like to show the inner workings and inner structure of the nest after we remove it.

It is interesting to see how the hornets construct their nest and how many new hornets would have emerged in the coming days and weeks. The queen does not leave the nest and would have been killed during the treatment process.

This means that there is no way for any remaining hornets to re-build the nest. If you are interested in learning how bald faced hornets make their nests, we have a video that shows the process.

If you have a hornet, yellow jacket, wasp, or bee issue, it’s time to call the professionals at Prudential Pest Solutions. We are the EXPERTS at treating and removing stinging insect nests.

Hornet Nest Treatment in Drexel Hill

We treated and removed this bald faced hornet nest in Drexel Hill PA, which is in South Eastern Pennsylvania. The nest was built on the upper roof of the front of the house.

To access the nest to treat and remove it, I needed 2 ladders. The first ladder was to reach the porch roof and the second ladder was to reach from the porch roof to the hornet nest.

After I put on my bee suit, I ascended the ladders and applied my favorite hornet chemical, PT PI. I always inject directly into the main opening of the nest first and then puncture into the side of the nest to complete the treatment.

PT PI works so quickly that it usually creates a dam of dead hornets inside the nest. This bald faced hornet nest was not very active for a nest treated in September. In fact, only a few hornets were in the nest during the treatment.

Usually this time of year, the nests and colonies are close to peak population. Later after the treatment when we opened the nest we could see that there was not a lot of activity or brood cells in the nest. After the nest was treated, I used my scraper and removed the nest from the brick and upper molding of the house.

The nest was surprising flat once it was removed. The contours of the house made it seem much larger and more round when we initially inspected it.

Once the nest was removed, I sprayed a contact insecticide to the outside of the building to kill off any stragglers that returned to where the nest was located.

Although this bald faced hornet nest was not very active, the homeowner was still very concerned about having a hornet nest on their home. When the homeowner was looking for a hornet specialist, they found Prudential Pest Solutions.

yellow jacket nest in the wall in Lancaster PA

Yellow Jacket Nest in Wall Lancaster PA

Our client in Lancaster Pa was seeing yellow jackets coming and going from the roof line where the dormer roof meets the main roof of the home.

In the spare bedroom directly under the area where the yellow jackets were seen entering the roof line, the homeowners could hear the yellow jackets in the wall.

When I arrived, I could see the yellow jackets coming and going from the roof line. As I inspected inside the spare room, I could see the soft spot in the wall where I suspected the nest was located.

When I put my hand on the soft spot on the wall, it felt warm to the touch. After putting on my bee suit and prepping the work area with tarps, I poked a small hole into the wall and injected a pressurized aerosol into the wall void.

The nest immediately came to life and you could hear a loud and continuous buzzing sound coming from the wall. As the sound started to die down as more and more yellow jackets were killed, I began to open more of the damaged drywall.

yellow jacket nest in the wall in Lancaster PA

The drywall was very thin due to the yellow jackets chewing at the back side of the drywall. This makes the drywall super soft and very easy to cut through and remove. As more of the drywall is removed, I continue to inject the aerosol PT PI into the wall void. This is because as more of the area is exposed, the PT PI can reach more places into the wall void.

Once the sound inside the wall quieted down, I began to remove the combs of the nest. In this case, the comb of the nest was removed in complete pieces. This is not always the case as sometimes the soft nesting material breaks apart during the treatment and removal process.

Once the nest and nesting material was removed, I taped off the openings in the drywall so no new yellow jackets could enter the room. This client requested that we not use an residual chemical in the wall void. This will result in still having a few straggling yellow jackets in the wall void but they will not last long.

These remaining yellow jackets will not be able to rebuild the nest and will eventually die off. After the nest was treated and removed and the area taped off, I cleaned up and vacuumed the area. This leaves a clean appearance and only leaves the homeowner with the job of hiring a drywall professional to patch up the area.

Yellow Jacket Nest in Closet in Malvern

This homeowner was cleaning out a closet in their living room when he found what he thought was evidence of rodents. Behind a box at the bottom of the closet was debris that the homeowner thought was evidence of rodents.

It was then that the yellow jackets started to come out of the closet area! That’s when the homeowners knew they needed a professional, so they called the best at Prudential Pest Solutions!

This client in Malvern Pa, which is in Chester County in South Eastern Pennsylvania, had yellow jackets coming and going from a hole in the siding. What we discovered after the treatment was that there used to be a hose faucet that came through the siding.

When a previous homeowner had the hose faucet removed, they never sealed up the hole where the pipe came through the siding. This hole allowed the yellow jackets to enter the siding and build a nest in the wall cavity behind the siding in the closet.

I was able to treat and remove this nest through the closet wall. After the nest was treated and removed, I applied a long term residual insecticidal dust into the wall void and sealed up the hole where the yellow jackets were entering.

There was another yellow jacket nest about 8 feet away from the first nest. These yellow jackets were coming and going from the main power cable going into their hot tub. I treated the entrance with an aerosol that permeates into the nest and then applied the same long term insecticidal dust in the entrance. The opening was then sealed up.

We are the EXPERTS at treating and removing yellow jacket, wasp, hornet, and bees nests. This homeowner knew they needed an expert and went with the best at Prudential Pest Solutions.

yellow jacket nest in ground in Malvern PA

3 Yellow Jacket Nest on 1 Property

This client in Malvern Pa had 3 yellow jacket nests on their property. 2 of the nests were in the ground in the backyard, and 1 was in the framing of the garage door.

I was able to treat and remove the 2 yellow jacket nests in the backyard. These yellow jackets excavate a large amount of soil in order to create a cavity in which they construct their nests.

The nests are just like the ones we see above ground and in houses in that they have combs and a paper shell. The soil covering the nests is often loose and the nest can easily be exposed and removed.

Ground yellow jackets are typically very aggressive when you treat and remove their nest. I always wear my full bee suit when I am treating and removing yellow jacket nests.

Using PT PI, I inject into the mouth of the nest and continue to apply it as more of the nest is exposed and eventually removed. This ensures that all of the nooks and crannies are treated and that no part of the nest is left untreated.

After the yellow jacket nests have been treated and removed, I fill the cavities with soil. The remaining yellow jackets will be unable to re-build the nest since the queen was killed during the nest treatment.

Since these nests were in the backyard, I sprayed the area where the nests were located to kill off the remaining yellow jackets so they posed no further threat to the homeowners.

The last nest was located in or under the garage door framing. I checked the inside of the garage to make sure the nest was in the wall. Just like the first 2 nests, I applied PT PI into the void behind the framing. This chemical will permeate the entire void and kill off the nest.

Then a long term residual insecticidal dust was applied for long term yellow jacket treatment. The remaining yellow jackets and the outside of the garage door framing were treated with a liquid insecticide.

yellow jacket nest ceiling coatesville pa

Yellow Jacket Nest in Ceiling Coatesville PA

We had a client in Coatesville PA, which is in Chester County in South Eastern Pennsylvania. The client noticed live and dead yellow jackets in their upstairs laundry room.

Above the washer and dryer was a small hole which was directly below the nest in the ceiling. The homeowners noticed the hole, taped it off, and called the professionals at Prudential Pest Solutions.

After I put on my bee suit, I used a B&G aerosol machine and filled it with Pyrocide 100. I injected into the hole in the ceiling and started treating the nest. After the activity in the ceiling died down, I used my pocket knife to start removing the damaged drywall.

When yellow jackets make their nest above a ceiling or in a wall, they tend to chew at the drywall. This results in the drywall becoming very thin and soft. Drywall is typically 1/2″ thick, but due to the yellow jacket damage, the drywall was paper thin. This is how I was able to effortlessly open up the ceiling drywall with only a pocket knife.

yellow jacket nest ceiling coatesville pa

After I removed the damaged drywall in the ceiling, I was able to remove the nest. It is very important to ensure that all of the nest and nesting material is removed from the ceiling area. Since we only remove the damaged drywall, it is necessary to reach into the ceiling void so that all of the nest is removed.

After the nest is removed, we apply a long term residual dust insecticide to kill off any yellow jackets that enter the ceiling void in the future. Another yellow jacket successfully treated and removed!

bald faced hornet nest Lebanon Pa

2 Hornet Nests at 1 House

This property in Lebanon Pa had 2 bald faced hornets nests on their property. 1 very large, basketball sized, nest was located in a tree in the front yard.

The other hornet nest, about softball sized, was on the second story soffit and siding. We treated and removed both of these nests in 5 minutes!

I started with the large nest in the tree. Using a Little Giant ladder, I was able to get pretty close to the nest. PT PI was then injected into the nest opening to kill off the hornets in the nest including the queen.

The remaining hornets that were not in the nest will be treated using a gas powered mister. Once the large nest was treated, I used a small saw to trim the branches that the nest was built around.

After the nest is removed, the remaining hornets typically gather and hover around where the nest used to be in the tree and do not follow the removed nest. 1 nest down, 1 to go! I adjusted the ladder to access the roof to treat nest #2.

The second nest was a soft ball sized bald faced hornet nest mounted to the soffit under the second story roof. Using the same ladder I used for the first nest, I was able to get on the porch roof to treat and remove the nest.

The second nest was not only smaller, but also had less hornets in it. This nest was active but since it didn’t have the population of the first nest, it was quicker to treat and remove. After the nest was treated, I removed the nest and scraped off the nest debris from the soffit and siding.

There is ALWAYS a small ring that remains on the siding where the nest used to be. This is a tell tale way to see that a home had a hornets nest in the past.

I was able to treat and remove these 2 bald faced hornets nests in 5 minutes because I have the professional gear, chemical, and experience. yellow jacket nest built on a pesticide bottle

Yellow Jacket Nest Built on Pesticide Bottle

This was a very unique yellow jacket treatment and removal job that we did in Malvern Pennsylvania. The yellow jackets had made a nest at the bottom of a large flower pot that the homeowners were using for wood storage for their fire pit.

What made this job unique was that the under the nest was a bottle of an “over the counter” pesticide. The yellow jackets had actually used the pesticide bottle to attach a portion of their nest. Oh the irony of a yellow jacket nest built onto a bottle of pesticide!

I could not believe my eyes when I pulled out that bottle from the flower pot and realized that it was a pesticide bottle and that the yellow jackets had used it as part of their nest.

Hornet Nest Coatesville PA

Hornet Nest in Coatesville PA

This bald faced hornet nest was mounted on the soffit and siding at the front of the home in the eaves of a home in Coatesville PA.

This client was referred to us from another local, family owned company: Froio’s Lawn and Landscaping from West Chester PA. The Froio’s mother went to high school with our client and referred us to her. We love when our friends and business partners refer us clients!

I needed an extension ladder to reach the eave where the hornet nest was located. Once I put on my bee suit, I climbed up to the nest so that I could inspect and treat the hornet nest close-up.

Hornet Nest Treatment Coatesville PA
Hornet Nest Treatment Coatesville PA

Using my favorite hornet treatment product, PT PI, I injected directly into the main entrance of the bald faced hornet nest. PT PI is a very fast acting chemical that kills the hornets within a few seconds. This fast treatment is great when dealing with many large stinging insects….especially when you are 20 feet in the air on a ladder!

Once the activity in the nest dies down, I use my paint scraper tool to dislodge the nest from the soffit and the siding. The paper outer layer of the nest came off pretty easily revealing the multi-tiered comb of the nest within.

This comb was firmly attached to the upper soffit and prevents the nest from simply blowing away in a storm. You can never completely erase all traces of a hornets nest on a house. Even though we removed the nest and all of the paper outer layer, there is always a distinctive mark on the siding where the nest was located.

Hornet Nest Coatesville PA
Hornet Nest Coatesville PA

You can always tell which house has had a hornets nest in the past due to this mark. After the nest is removed, there will always be a few hornets hovering around where the nest used to be.

These hornets were out of the nest during the treatment process gathering resources for the colony. When they return to the treated nest, they are not really sure what to do.

I sprayed a bifenthrin chemical into the eaves and soffit to treat the area for these straggling hornets. I applied the bifenthrin using a gas powered mist blower made by Stihl. Although it looks like a fog, the chemical is actually applied as small droplets.

Big thanks to Froio’s Lawn and Landscaping for the great referral! Another satisfied client and another bald faced hornet nest successfully treated and removed.

Yellow Jacket Nest at the Goat Farm

This yellow jacket nest was in the ground inside the fence of the goat pen in Nottingham PA in South Eastern Chester County. After the homeowner and their farm hand were stung, they knew they had to call in the professionals at Prudential Pest Solutions to treat and remove this nest.

The goats were very curious as to who I was and what I was doing. They kept their distance but eventually came over for an introduction. Since there was livestock present, we had to be very selective about our treatment process and the chemicals we used.

After I put on my bee suit, I used my favorite aerosol insecticide PT PI. This product was perfect for this situation because it kills the yellow jackets quickly, permeates the entire nest, and most importantly, does not have any residual.

I wanted to make sure that whatever treatment method we used would NOT harm any of the goats. The nest itself was in the ground under an old piece of fencing.

Once I moved some of the leaves and debris I could see the paper outer layer of the nest. I also knew I found the nest because the yellow jackets immediately came out of the nest.

The PT PI was able to quickly knock them down and kill off the members of the nest. Once the bulk of the nest was killed off, I was able to move the old fencing and remove the combs of the nest.

This nest was medium size but very active which is why the workers were stung so many times. They had tried to spray some “over the counter” wasp spray but were unable to fully eradicate this nest. This is because the nest was guarded by leaves, debris, fencing material, and the paper outer layer.

Our chemical was able to make quick work of this nest. It also helps to wear a protective bee suit too! Prudential Pest Solutions is a Family and Veteran owned and operated pest control and exterminating company.
