Termites are wood destroying insects that feed on wood. In Pennsylvania, we only have subterranean termites, which means they live under ground or in the wood itself.

Since our termites are subterranean, the termite damage to your home can often go unnoticed for years. Once discovered, the termite damage can be extensive and expensive.

What is a termite?

The termites that we have in our area of Pennsylvania are small, about the size of half of a grain of rice. Like rice, they are also white in color or almost clear. This is because they live underground and in the wood and have to actively avoid sunlight.

We have many different methods for treating for termites. The first step is to properly identify the pest issue to confirm it is termites. Some other wood destroying pests such as wood beetles, carpenter ants, and carpenter bees can be mistaken for termites. Once we have verified it is termites, we have several methods for treatment.

Termite Treatments using Termidor HE

Prudential Pest Solutions is a Termidor HE Certified Professional. Termidor HE is the best professional product available in the termite control industry to eradicate and eliminate termite infestations and colonies.

Termidor HE is a liquid that we inject under the ground at the foundation of the home. This liquid provides a barrier to current and future termites.

The termites come in contact with the Termidor HE under the ground and take it back to the colony. This treatment method is so effective because termites are social insects.

Termite Bait Systems

Although we prefer a to use the termite treatment method above, that is not our only termite treatment option. In some cicumstances we cannot use Termidor HE to treat for termites. This may be due to a homeowner’s treatment preference or because there is a well or cistern too close to the house.

Termite Bait Systems are another great option for treating and preventing termites. Termite Bait Systems, also known as TBS, are stations that are installed in the soil outside of the home, near the foundation. The stations look similar to solar lights and are about that same size. The TBS are installed every 10-15 feet around the perimeter of the foundation. Inside of the TBS are termite baits that have a termiticide (a chemical specific to treating termites) in them. When the termites feed on the bait they take the bait back to the colony and the colony is eradicated.

The Termite Bait Systems are also used a monitoring system as well as an active treatment system. This is because the stations can be opened periodically throughout the year to physically see if there are termites present. Below is a video that shows in detail how Termite Bait Systems work.
