This bald faced hornet nest was mounted on the soffit and siding at the front of the home in the eaves of a home in Coatesville PA.
This client was referred to us from another local, family owned company: Froio’s Lawn and Landscaping from West Chester PA. The Froio’s mother went to high school with our client and referred us to her. We love when our friends and business partners refer us clients!
I needed an extension ladder to reach the eave where the hornet nest was located. Once I put on my bee suit, I climbed up to the nest so that I could inspect and treat the hornet nest close-up.
Using my favorite hornet treatment product, PT PI, I injected directly into the main entrance of the bald faced hornet nest. PT PI is a very fast acting chemical that kills the hornets within a few seconds. This fast treatment is great when dealing with many large stinging insects….especially when you are 20 feet in the air on a ladder!
Once the activity in the nest dies down, I use my paint scraper tool to dislodge the nest from the soffit and the siding. The paper outer layer of the nest came off pretty easily revealing the multi-tiered comb of the nest within.
This comb was firmly attached to the upper soffit and prevents the nest from simply blowing away in a storm. You can never completely erase all traces of a hornets nest on a house. Even though we removed the nest and all of the paper outer layer, there is always a distinctive mark on the siding where the nest was located.
You can always tell which house has had a hornets nest in the past due to this mark. After the nest is removed, there will always be a few hornets hovering around where the nest used to be.
These hornets were out of the nest during the treatment process gathering resources for the colony. When they return to the treated nest, they are not really sure what to do.
I sprayed a bifenthrin chemical into the eaves and soffit to treat the area for these straggling hornets. I applied the bifenthrin using a gas powered mist blower made by Stihl. Although it looks like a fog, the chemical is actually applied as small droplets.
Big thanks to Froio’s Lawn and Landscaping for the great referral! Another satisfied client and another bald faced hornet nest successfully treated and removed.
